Abstract

Concepts that are important for success in life accelerate the acceptance of the changing understanding of intelligence. The fact that most of the people with high cognitive IQ and academic success are not successful in life has led to the emergence of the concept of "emotional intelligence". The ability of individuals to acquire competencies in the context of emotional intelligence later, and the success of these competencies in maximizing success and satisfaction in life increases the importance of emotional intelligence. The aim of this study is to determine the relationship between emotional intelligence and life satisfaction in 650 secondary school students studying in Adıyaman Center by regression analysis. Correlation analysis results showed that emotional intelligence was positively and significantly associated with life satisfaction (p<0.05). An increase in emotional intelligence score increases life satisfaction by 71.4%. As a result of the regression analysis, it was observed that emotional intelligence had a statistically significant positive effect on life satisfaction (β=0.721; p=0.000). Emotional intelligence sub-dimensions also affect life satisfaction in a statistically significant positive. With the highest order of influence among the sub-dimensions; well-being (β=0.716; p=0.000), sociability (β=0.712; p=0.000), self-control (β=0.687; p=0.000) and emotionality (β=0.664; p=0.000).
