Abstract

In this study, the effects of the exchange rate crisis in mid-2018 on the financial performance of automotive companies in BIST-100 were examined. For this purpose the pre-and post-crisis differences in their financial structures, including liquidity, operational, financial and profitability ratios of these companies, were tried to be determined by using dependent sample T-test. In order to evaluate the study better, the Turkish automotive sector and the financial crises experienced in the last 20 years are also included in the study. As a result of the analysis of the financial ratios, it was determined that the liquidity of the automotive companies was affected negatively, the financial structure rates deteriorated and the foreign exchange fluctuation contributed positively to the profit margins due to the high export rate of the automotive companies, However, according to the dependent sample T-test result for statistical verification, it was concluded that there was no statistically significant difference between the averages of financial ratios before and after the currency crisis.
