An Aåžk-Name In Ahmedi’S Iskender-Name Mathnawi: €Œiåžkiyyat-I Iskenderâ€

Abstract

Mathnawi has been a poetic style that is prefered for long poetic texts since it has rhyme changes in each couplet and the number of couplets aren’t limited. This makes it convenient for poets regarding poetic texts based on narration. Such kind of poetic tales as Leyla and Mecnun, Husrev and Shirin, Yusuf and Zuleyha on love have been written in this style and when it comes to mathnawis, what springs in our minds is such kinds of texts. And Işkiyyat-i Iskender, which is the subject of this article, is a specific tale of love which is in the mathnawi of Ahmedi called İskender-name, a poet of 14. century. In the article, Işkiyyat-i Iskender will be examined regarding textual composition, and structure of the tale and will be evaluated with respect to showing the some shared characteristics of folk tales and legends on view of the episodes and patterns.
