Abstract

The aim of this study was to examine the effects of educational games on problem solving skills of 10-11 year-old children. Research has been designed in experimental model. In this research, ?pre- and post test, experimental design with control group? has been used. Students aged between 10-11 year-old in a junior high school in ?stanbul have constituted the population. 40 students carrying on 5th and 6th grades in the same school have constituted the sample group. Problem Solving Inventory for Children at the Level of Primary Education (PSIC) has been used to collect data. SPSS 20 has been used to analyze data. Normal distribution conformity of data has been determined by using kolmogoro-smirnov test. For all the groups, it has been found that data did not display normal distribution. Correspondingly, nonparametric tests, Wilcoxon and Mann Whitney-U, have been used to analyze data. Examined the pre- and post test results of control group, self-confidence, self-control, avoidance have been found to be p=0.253>0.05, p=0.657>0.05, p=0.327>0.05, respectively. According to these results, there has been no difference found between pre- and post test of control group. Compared pre- and post test of experimental group, self-confidence, avoidance have been found to be p=0.253>0.05, p=0.405>0.05, respectively. Significant difference has been found between pre- and post test of experimental group in terms of self-control (p=0.012
