Abstract
In the research, the definition and characteristics of culture were expressed, and an examination of the cultural varieties was made. According to this; The characteristics and dynamics of material culture, spiritual culture, general culture, subculture, organizational culture and school culture were examined. Although school culture is considered as organizational culture by some researchers and is considered as an organizational structure, it is considered as two separate cultures by some researchers. In the research, both organizational culture and school culture were evaluated separately in terms of their characteristics and dynamics. The fact that an effective and successful model was determined in the school culture was directly related to student success. Although the success of students is affected by intelligence, motivation, teacher relations and family attitudes, the cultural characteristics adopted by the schools were also found to be directly related to success, and the characteristics of school cultures that will provide ways to increase the success of their students were included in the research. In our study, descriptive analysis was carried out with the qualitative analysis method. In the research, the studies on the subject were examined and a literature review was made depending on these examinations. In the literature review, relevant additions were made to the study by focusing on the topics of the existing studies and the problems they dealt with. The purpose of this research is to examine the effects of cultures in their schools on student achievement. Data on school culture were obtained with the School Culture Scale (OKS), which was applied in 43 schools in Turkey in the 2010-2020 academic year. The data on student achievement are obtained from the results of the placement test applied in Turkey. Exam scores are taken from the general success of the 8th grade students in the exam. The data obtained from OKS showed that there was a five-factor structure in the scale. The relationship between these five factors, which show the characteristics of the culture that is dominant in schools, and student achievement was examined by correlation technique. According to the findings, there is a significant relationship between student achievement and school culture's collaborative leadership, teacher cooperation and unity of purpose factors. There is a relationship between school culture and student success. This relationship is at the highest level in the occupational development factor of OCD. The fact that the teacher is constantly striving to improve himself brings student success. Teachers who follow the developments in the world and in their field, constantly research and share their knowledge with their students have a significant impact on the academic success of their students.
