Youth Unemployment Impact Of R&D Expenditures: Panel Data Analysis For Turkey And Eu Countries

Abstract

To survive in today's competitive environment and to increase economic growth figures Research and development activities are of great importance. Therefore, Turkey and the European Union (EU) has focused its R & D spending, like all countries in the world. While these developments in R & D expenditures are experienced, it is noteworthy that the number of young people who are not employed is seen as a serious problem. Inthisstudy, the impact on youth unemployment of R & D intensity were analyze dempirically for Turkey and EU countries. In the model established based on the 2000-2017 period, long-term cointegration coefficients were estimated with the Fully Modified Least Squares Method. The short-term relationship coefficients were determined by error correction model and Dumitrescu and Hurlin (2012) causality analysis was applied. In this context, policy suggestions were made in line with the econometric results.
