Abstract

The purpose of this study examines the moderating effect of locus of control on the relationship between leader-member exchange and job satisfaction. The sample of the study was branch banks in Ankara, Balıkesir, Bursa, Çanakkale, Istanbul and Izmir. The data were collected through questionnaires. In this frame, five hundred twenty seven questionnaires were analyzed. The findings of the study showed that leader-member exchange has a statistically significant and positive effect on job satisfaction. Moreover, interaction between leader-member exchange and locus of control has a statistically significant positive effect on job satisfaction. At this stage, it was seen that the effect of leader-member exchange on job satisfaction has increased. According to these results it can be said that the effect of leader-member exchange on job satisfaction was higher when employees’ locus of control was internal as opposed to when it was external. On the other hand, we couldn’t find any significant effect of locus of control on job satisfaction. Some suggestions for future research have been offered.
