El efecto de la Gran Recesión sobre la oferta laboral en Ecuador

Abstract

A través de un diseño cuasi experimental, con un modelo de combinación de cortes transversales en el tiempo (pooled cross section over time), se analiza el efecto que tuvo la crisis financiera del año 2008, conocida como La Gran Recesión, sobre la oferta laboral en Ecuador. El flujo de remesas percibidas disminuyó a causa de la contracción económica en Estados Unidos y España, por lo que el trade –off entre ocio y trabajo para los perceptores de remesas pudo haberse afectado; una disminución en el ingreso del hogar, reduciría el ocio e incrementaría las horas trabajadas para compensar la disminución del ingreso (efecto sustitución es mayor al efecto renta). Los resultados indican que la probabilidad de trabajar horas adicionales por parte de un individuo receptor de remesas se incrementó en aproximadamente 5% como consecuencia de una perturbación en el ingreso familiar con mayor prevalencia en hombres, solteros y gente con mayor nivel de instrucción.
