Desarrollo Economico De Filipinas En 1950-2007: Analisis Comparativo Con Otros Países Del Sur Y Este De Asia

Abstract

Presentamos un analisis comparativo del desarrollo económico de Filipinas con China, India, Indonesia, Malasia y otros paises del Sur y Este de Asia en 1950-2007, teniendo en cuenta los principales factores que explican el valor del PIB per capita y de algunos indicadores del nivel de bienestar, como el gasto en salud y en educacion por habitante y el porcentaje de pobreza. Analizamos los efectos positivos del capital humano y otros factores, con especial referencia a la evolución de la industria manufacturera y del comercio exterior en el período 1990-2007, así como los grandes retos que se presentan para los próximos años. Destacamos la conveniencia de favorecer la cooperación internacional con Filipinas, para impulsar el desarrollo y erradicar la pobreza extrema. We present an analysis of economic development of Philippines in comparison with China, India, Indonesia, Malaysia and other South and East Asia countries, for the period 1950-2007, having into account the main production factors which explain real GDP per capita and the levels of wellbeing indicators such as health and education expenditure per capita and poverty percentage of population. We analyze the effects of human capital, industry, and other factors, and the main challenges for the next years. We point to the convenience of policies addressed to favor international cooperation with Philippines, in order to improve economic development and to eradicate extreme poverty.
