Abstract

Analysis of comparative advantage in export of agricultural products has received little attention on the ground that agricultural products are intensive in the use of natural resources and thus the pattern of trade in such products depends to a considerable extent on the not easily quantifiable resource endowment of the country. The neglect has also been partly due to the fact that most of the studies on comparative advantage were done for developed economies (mainly USA and Japan) for which the share of primary exports was quite low. The present paper attempts to analyse India's comparative advantage of trade in agricultural products. It also identifies the types of such products for which export effort would be worth undertaking.
