Preisunterschiede mildern Einkommensgefälle zwischen West und Ost

Abstract

Unter Berücksichtigung neuer Informationen zu regionalen Preisniveaus in Deutschland fallen die realen Einkommensunterschiede zwischen West- und Ostdeutschland geringer aus als bisher berechnet. Nach Daten des Sozio-oekonomischen Panel (SOEP) und den vom Bundesamt für Bauwesen und Raumordnung zur Verfügung gestellten Preisinformationen waren die realen verfügbaren Haushaltseinkommen in Ostdeutschland im Erhebungsjahr 2008 durchschnittlich um 16 Prozent - oder 3 500 Euro - niedriger als im Westen. Der Abstand ist damit um rund ein Viertel kleiner als nach den bisherigen Berechnungen. Beim Risiko, in (relative) Einkommensarmut zu fallen, schrumpft die West-Ost-Kluft noch stärker, eine deutliche Differenz bleibt aber auch hier bestehen: Anhand der neuen Informationen über die regionalen Kaufkraftunterschiede ergibt sich für Ostdeutschland für das Jahr 2008 eine Armutsrisikoquote von 17,5 Prozent, für den Westen sind es 13,4 Prozent.
