USA: Geschichte einer ungewöhnlichen Rezession

Abstract

Die US-amerikanische Wirtschaft geriet zu Beginn des Jahres 2001 in eine Rezession, mit der die längste Aufschwungphase ihrer Geschichte zu Ende ging. Diesem Einbruch waren ein außergewöhnlicher Börsenboom, Anzeichen einer Überhitzung auf dem Arbeitsmarkt sowie eine beschleunigte Produktivitätsentwicklung vorausgegangen. Gemessen an Produktion, Investitionen und Konsumausgaben verlief die Rezession ausgesprochen mild. Inzwischen ist es zu einer deutlichen Erholung gekommen. Dies liegt vor allem an der starken antizyklischen Reaktion der Wirtschaftspolitik. Allerdings geht die Restrukturierung der Unternehmen bisher nur mit einer geringen Beschäftigungserholung einher. Zwei Ungleichgewichte werden die weitere Erholung in den USA belasten: das Leistungsbilanzdefizit und das öffentliche Defizit
