Abstract

"Should I start a Riester pension?" According to consumer rights protection agency, Nordrhein- Westfalen (NRW), consumers often cannot answer this question. Many people feel that the rules and regulations of the Riester-Rente products are too complicated, not transparent, and too expensive. The consumer rights protection agency expects both the government and Riester pension providers to provide a consumer friendly market with easy to understand and affordable products. To strengthen consumer confidence, we strongly recommend adopting legal rules and regulations, plus introducing a publically managed Riester pension product offered by, for example, the German Finance Agency, Deutsche Finanzagentur.
