Frente a lo ocurrido en Inglaterra, donde cuentan con manuscritos sobre administración y contabilidad señorial desde el siglo XIII, en España sólo se conocen hasta ahora cuatro textos de los siglos XV al XVII en que sus autores se ocupan con mayor o menor detalle de este asunto, pero de los que sólo uno, publicado inicialmente en 1613, puede equipararse en cierto modo a los ingleses: el ‘Compendio en razón de acrecentar Estado y Hacienda y Oficio de Contador’ de Gabriel Pérez del Barrio.
