Operele Juristului Pierre Pithou În Bibliotecile Din Transilvania

Abstract

Pierre Pithou (1539-1596), personnalité marquante de la Renaissance française, fait partie d’une famille de juristes célèbres, qui, par leurs oeuvres, sont présents aussi dans les plus prestigieuses bibliothèques de Transylvanie. La famille dont il fait partie est "un séminaire de grands hommes", selon l’affirmation de Jacques Cujas, et Pierre Pithou, le plus important représentant. Elevé par son père dans le goût des études classiques, il a très bien connu le latin, le grec et l’hébreu. Il a été apprécié de son vivant aussi bien pour ses travaux considérables de jurisprudence, que pour sa collaboration à la rédaction de la Satyre Ménippée, ou pour son activité d’humaniste, ou pour son infatigable activité de recherche des manuscrits. Sa réputation de jurisconsulte s’est étendue non seulement en France, mais en Europe aussi. Ses oeuvres ont circulé de même sur le territoire de la Transylvanie et la présence de quelques exemplaires de valeur dans les plus importantes bibliothèques témoigne du fait que les écrits de Pierre Pithou ont été appréciés et collectionnés par nos intellectuels, parmi lesquels une place d’honneur occupe l’érudit Timotei Cipariu. Leur mise en valeur nous a semblé bien nécessaire.
