Abstract
Crowdinvesting is the most recent extension of the scope of early stage financing: Entrepreneurs present a project to a large number of potential, yet anonymous investors via internet platforms, offering particular investment opportunities to the members of this crowd, and then finance the project based on their numerous small-scale contributions. This article gives a short overview of crowdinvesting, starting by distinguishing it from crowdfunding, and characterizing the actors involved. Thereafter, crowdinvesting is analysed from an institutional point of view, concluding that crowdinvesting represents a promising innovation for means of entrepreneurial/SME finance that definitely is worth further discussion and research.
