Abstract

On the second decade of the 21st century, studies with very different approaches have claimed the character of neo-structural, or new structural economy. Considering the diversity of perspectives, it is relevant wondering about the ideas of structure used in research standards, as well as the differences between them and their implications. As a result, it has been possible to conclude that the interest of structures rest in the order, or the organization of relationships, the process of its emergence, the properties and causal forces that define them or their expansion. The concept may work, under certain constraints, within convention-al economics and be adopted on the validation of methodological individualism. Without these constraints, it can also build scientific knowledge, but with different validation mechanisms and scope. Therefore, the problem for the research methodology is establishing whether the structure works in one scientific area or another and assume the consequences of this approach.
