El ciclo económico de Cataluña. Un análisis comparativo con la Unión Económica y Monetaria

Abstract

El estudio que se propone pretende analizar el ciclo económico (business cycle) de la comunidad autónoma de Cataluña en el período 2000:1-2013:1 y relacionarlo con el de la zona euro. El trabajo tiene 2 objetivos principales. En primer lugar, caracterizar las fases cíclicas de esta región y compararlas con las de la zona euro en términos de duración, amplitud y asimetrías steepness y deepness. En segundo lugar, analizar cómo la presencia o ausencia de divergencias en las características de las fases cíclicas descritas afecta a la sincronización temporal de sus ciclos. Por un lado, abordaremos el grado de sincronización alcanzado por Cataluña en los primeros años de incorporación a la zona euro. Nos interesará ver si la intensificación del border effect y los linkages con países/regiones vecinos compensaron shocks específicos regionales. Por otro lado, determinaremos la intensidad del desacoplamiento y asimetría que ha conllevado la crisis sobre la economía de Cataluña en relación a la de la zona euro.
