Walter Lippmann Et Le Néolibéralisme De La Cité Libre

Abstract

In this article, we aim to highlight the main lines of Walter Lippmann's project of rebuilding liberalism in his book The Good Society (1937a). First we expose the historical context and the author's overall trend of thought. Then we deal with what seems to us to be the striking figure of his conception of liberalism, sometimes called neoliberalism: his opposition to laissez-faire. This involves also specifying what he meant by laws, markets and political technology. And finally, we speculate about the influence of his work on the main books that Hayek wrote after the fifties.
