El mundo de la pobreza

Abstract

En el artículo se analizan aspectos relacionados con el fenómeno de la pobreza a nivel mundial, entre ellos su conceptualización, así como el panorama general en los diferentes grupos de regiones. También se busca establecer los factores, tanto externos como internos, determinantes de la pobreza en la etapa actual del desarrollo, así como evaluar las políticas encaminadas a reducir este flagelo. Tal y como se desprende de esta primera parte del artículo, el problema de la pobreza continúa afectando a la mayor parte de la población mundial, especialmente a aquella que reside en los países con menor desarrollo relativo. Esto ha obligado a revisar radicalmente el concepto tradicional de pobreza basado en los niveles de ingreso, ampliando el abanico de criterios que permiten comprender en toda su profundidad y extensión dicho fenómeno.
