Impacto de las brechas demográficas ampliadas durante la pandemia en la caída del empleo

Abstract

Los grupos demográficos que presentan mayores vulnerabilidades socioeconómicas previas, como las mujeres, los jóvenes y las personas con menor cualificación, han visto agravados sus retos estructurales desde el inicio de la pandemia en Colombia. Es preciso, entonces, aislar el impacto ocasionado especificamente por las brechas demográficas ampliadas con motivo de la pandemia sobre la caída del empleo en las 23 ciudades y áreas metropolitanas. Esto mediante un modelo de diferencias en diferencias el cual estima que cerca de una quinta parte (3,1 p.p.) de la caída en el empleo total estuvo asociado con la ampliación de la brecha de género; una décima parte (2,0 p.p.) con la extensión de la brecha generacional; y una tercera parte (5,8 p.p.) con una brecha de habilidades más alta. Lo anterior, evidencia la necesidad de focalizar las políticas públicas en dichas personas más sensibles a la caída de la demanda laboral.
