Ventajas económicas del aprovechamiento del agua lluvia

Abstract

Este artículo cuantifica algunos beneficios económicos que aportaría una cultura de aprovechamiento de agua lluvia en el caso de Bogotá. El trabajo se realizó mediante proyecciones de necesidades futuras de agua hasta 2035, con base en el crecimiento poblacional y de la economía local como variables determinantes de las necesidades del servicio de acueducto. Se destaca lo apropiado que resultaría promover el aprovechamiento del agua como estrategia ante la situación de apremio del cambio climático, por las limitaciones que produciría al aprovisionamiento de agua a la ciudad. Las proyecciones de necesidades de abastecimiento de agua para la población creciente hasta 2035 indican que se re-quiere un aumento del 37,6 % de la capacidad de abastecimiento para consumo de la población de las localidades que componen la zona urbana de Bogotá. Se concluye que el aprovechamiento del agua lluvia generaría ahorros importantes de agua y costos de suministro de este recurso para los usuarios y el Estado
