Abstract
AbstractThis article analyzes the participation of the economic sectors (industrial, commerce, agriculture, mining and real estate sector) in the total GDP of Antioquia in the period 1980-2005, and reviews the application of the first and second law of Kaldor in the department, during the mentioned period. Methodology: An econometric model is formulated using Ordinary Least Squares in order to study the application of the laws of Kaldor for Antioquia´s case. For its application, on the one hand, the historical behavior of the total GDP of the region and the GDP by sectors are analyzed, as well as the information regarding the gross production, labor and fixed assets found on the Annual Manufacturing Survey. On the other hand, the study of the economic sectors of Antioquia during the period 1980-2005, is based on the relation among them and on the structural effects on the total GDP, by comparing the growth rates and the participation of the sectors in the total GDP of the region. Findings: Antioquia´s industrial sector has reduced its participation in the Gross Domestic Product of the department, whereas the service activity has gained space. Also, taking into account the empirical evidence, it is recognized the industrial activity as the motor of growth for the economy of the department, since it has an elasticity over 40%. The analysis of economical sectors of Antioquia during the period 1980-2005, reveals that commercial activity are another source of growth for the region, and are closely tied to the industrial activity.
