La importancia de la microeconomía schumpeteriana: un análisis de panel para Colombia

Abstract

Resumen Con una base de datos longitudinal se muestra para Colombia la importancia del nacimiento, supervivencia y crecimiento de las empresas en el crecimiento industrial. Así, se demuestra un aspecto fundamental de la mal llamada “destrucción creativa”. Lo que se encuentra es creación en que las empresas de mayor productividad se expanden y –destrucción– desplazan a las empresas más ineficientes. Este proceso explica cerca de la totalidad del crecimiento de la productividad industrial. El aporte neto de la entrada y salida de empresas no es significante. También se muestra que hay firmas que se crean y crecen en el mismo sector en que otras se contraen y salen. En la mayoría de sectores se encuentra tanto pequeñas firmas de baja productividad como grandes firmas de alta productividad. Estas últimas firmas se autoseleccionan en el mercado de exportación, y de este modo se explora la relación entre tamaño, productividad y exportaciones.
