Los acontecimientos recientes del sector financiero en perspectiva

Abstract

“La evolución reciente del sector financiero se ha caracterizado por algunos sucesos que han reclamado la atención de la opinión pública. Tales eventos han desembocado en la incapacidad de algunos intermediarios para cumplir oportunamente con el pago de sus acreencias. No se trata, sin embargo, de una experiencia corriente, por lo menos desde que se acogió el sistema de banca central y bancos de crédito en 1923. Por el contrario, las instituciones financieras colombianas se han distinguido durante más de medio siglo por su sujeción a las guías tradicionales de la profesión bancaria. Al margen de los detalles de las circunstancias mencionadas la ocasión es propicia para recoger apretadamente algunos de los rasgos sobresalientes del sector financiero en los diez últimos anos con el propósito de centrar la atención en sus características relevantes durante ese período. En otras palabras, interesa más detenerse en la consideración del "bosque" que en la observación meticulosa de algunos "árboles".”
