Crecimiento económico y cambio estructural en Colombia : Una comparación intenacional

Abstract

La estructura económica en Colombia ha cambiado significativamente desde el final de la segunda Guerra Mundial. Durante este período el ritmo de crecimiento económico se aceleró hasta finales de los anos setenta, cuando el crecimiento en Colombia, así como en toda América Latina, se frenó e incluso se tornó negativo en algunos casos. Este artículo provee una perspectiva internacional para una comparación del patrón de crecimiento y de cambio en Colombia. Se basa especialmente en estudios publicados sobre la economía colombiana y en estudios comparativos recientes sobre crecimiento e industrialización (Chenery y Syrquin, 1975, 1986a; Chenery, Robinson y Syrquin, 1986). La primera parte senala la posición relativa de Colombia en 1950 y 1980, seguida de una comparación del crecimiento de largo plazo de la producción y la productividad. Las siguientes dos secciones tratan acerca de la estructura económica. La primera de ellas compara la estructura económica observada en Colombia con aquella esperada para un país con características similares. Esta comparación estática está seguida de una dinámica sobre los patrones de cambio desde 1950. Una descomposición del crecimiento entre sus diferentes fuentes inmediatas es el tema de la cuarta parte. La última parte presenta algunas estadísticas comparativas de la productividad relativa del trabajo por sectores económicos.
