Nutrición y salud infantil en Colombia: determinantes y alternativas de política

Abstract

Este trabajo tiene dos objetivos complementarios: estudiar los determinantes socioeconómicos de la nutrición y la salud infantil, y evaluar el impacto de los dos principales programas públicos de bienestar infantil existentes en Colombia: los Hogares Comunitarios de Bienestar y el Régimen Subsidiado en Salud. Los resultados muestran que los indicadores antropométricos mejoran de manera ostensible con la edad de la madre. La educación de la madre tiene un efecto no tanto sobre los indicadores acumulativos (talla para la edad), como sobre los indicadores de corto plazo (peso para la talla). De otro lado, los Hogares Comunitarios de Bienestar no parecen estar asociados con una mayor talla de los ninos. Por su parte, el Régimen Subsidiado en Salud tiene un efecto menor (y circunscrito a los hogares más pobres) sobre el peso al nacer.
