Un Análisis descriptivo del homicidio durante la primera etapa del Plan Colombia

Abstract

En el breve periodo comprendido entre 2000 y 2006, la tasa de homicidios en Colombia se redujo en cerca de 40%. Esta sustancial disminución coincidió con la implementación del Plan Colombia. Este documento describe los cambios de la tasa de homicidios por grupos demográficos y geográficos en este periodo. Usando información de Estadísticas Vitales, se muestra que la caída del homicidio durante el Plan Colombia fue un fenómeno generalizado por edad, género y departamento. Adicionalmente, se encuentra que la reducción en los homicidios de jóvenes entre 15 y 29 anos contribuyó con más del 50% de la caída nacional del número de homicidios. A nivel departamental, la disminución del homicidio en Antioquia contribuyó con cerca del 50% de la reducción del número de homicidios a nivel nacional. El estudio también analiza los posibles mecanismos a través de los cuales el Plan Colombia pudo contribuir en la reducción de la violencia homicida en el país.
