¿Eliminar la intermediación de la EPS para asignarle esta función al Estado? ¡Peor el remedio que la enfermedad!

Abstract

Resumen: La prestación de los servicios de salud en Colombia atraviesa por una crisis cuyo origen se halla en distintas causas. Esa crisis ha llevado a muchas manifestaciones académicas y populares a levantarse en contra de la intermediación de las EPS e, incluso, se ha llegado a proponer un referendo para derogar la Ley 100 de 1993 y convertir al Estado en el único asegurador y pagador directo de los servicios del Sistema de Salud que demanda la población colombiana. A juicio de los proponentes, las razones para esta propuesta obedecen, en lo fundamental, a dos situaciones: al papel de simple intermediación financiera que han desempenado y a su elevado costo lo que se traduce en la reducción absurda de recursos que deberían ser destinados al objeto esencial del Sistema de Salud, en lugar de convertirse en jugosas ganancias para las EPS.
