Una evidencia más sobre regímenes cambiarios y política monetaria en el contexto mundial

Abstract

Resumen: Históricamente los regímenes cambiarios se han dividido en tres grandes grupos: fijos, intermedios y flexibles. La crisis financiera de los países en desarrollo de finales de los noventa afectó especialmente a los países que tenían sistemas de tipo de cambio intermedios, lo que dio pie a la visión bipolar del tipo de cambio que cuestionaba la sostenibilidad en el tiempo del régimen cambiario intermedio. En este artículo se resumen las principales características de los tres grupos de regímenes y su relación con los diferentes programas monetarios, observando la tendencia de éstos durante los últimos anos mediante una clasificación actualizada de facto del FMI y de Bubula y Otker-Robe (2002) para el período 1990-2007.
