Percepción de Inseguridad y Consumo: Evidencia para la Ciudad de Palmira (Colombia)

Abstract

Resumen Este artículo presenta los resultados de una investigación que analiza la incidencia de la percepción de inseguridad en las decisiones de consumo de los habitantes de la ciudad de Palmira (Colombia). Utilizando la encuesta de victimización y percepción de seguridad en Palmira 2017, y bajo la estimación de modelos Probit y Logit, se encontró que los consumidores anticipan la probabilidad de ser víctima de un delito a la hora de consumir diferentes tipos de bienes, desviando sus recursos a otro tipo de actividades que implican menor riesgo. La relevancia de los hallazgos radica en que ofrecen argumentos para que las autoridades ajusten mecanismos de seguridad pública y privada, que se enfoquen no solo en las cifras objetivas (tasas de crimen), sino también en el componente subjetivo de la inseguridad (percepción de inseguridad ciudadana).
