Distribución y crecimiento: Una revisión de la literatura reciente

Abstract

este trabajo resume las principales contribuciones hechas por la literatura del crecimiento endógeno relacionadas con la interacción entre desigualdad y crecimiento, resena los principales determinantes de esta interacción en la investigación empírica reciente y los contrasta con la experiencia histórica de países desarrollados y en vías de desarrollo. se encuentra, en primer lugar, que la mayoría de estudios no provee soporte empírico a la conocida hipótesis de kuznets sobre una relación de U invertida entre el crecimiento económico y la distribución del ingreso; en segundo lugar, que no existe una relación sistemática entre estas dos variables ; en tercer lugar, que la desigualdad inicial está asociada con bajos ritmos de crecimiento económico , y finalmente, que en el caso de América Latina la desigualdad se ha convertido en un obstáculo al crecimiento económico.
