¿Por qué Colombia no ha tenido hiperinflación? Los determinantes de una política económica estable

Abstract

n las últimas décadas y hasta comienzos de la de 1990, Colombia se ha caracterizado por la estabilidad macroeconómica, en contraste con lo enorme volatilidad que presentaron otros países de América Latina. ¿Por qué esa estabilidad?En este artículo se discuten dos tipos de factores, unos económicos y otros políticos, que explican la estabilidad colombiana. Por un lado, los encadenamiento generados por el café llevaron a condiciones poco propicias para el surgimiento de movimientos nacionalistas de orientación populista.
