Los empresarios de Barranquilla 1820 - 1900

Abstract

Presenta el significativo papel desempenado por los extranjeros en Barranquilla, un caso único en la historia empresarial colombiana, se asemeja a lo acontecido en otras sociedades de Latinoamérica en donde los inmigrantes extranjeros han tenido una gran importancia en su desarrollo. En efecto, diferentes investigaciones han mostrado cómo los empresarios extranjeros contribuyeron en forma sustantiva en el desarrollo de la minería, comercio, agricultura, los transportes y la industria en diversos países latinoamericanos.Los extranjeros y en particular los alemanes, lo holandeses de Curazao, los británicos y los estadounidenses, dominaron las dos principales actividades económicas del puerto los transportes (al interior y al exterior del país) y el comercio.
