Efectos de la raza y el género en el logro educativo y estatus socio-ocupacional para tres ciudades colombianas

Abstract

Este trabajo valora la importancia de los orígenes sociales y el logro individual en el proceso de estratificación social entre grupos raciales en las ciudades de Cali, Cartagena y Bogotá. Para ello se utiliza la muestra de la ENH del DANE, etapa 110 de diciembre de 2000. Los hallazgos sugieren la presencia de fuertes desigualdades en el logro educativo y en el estatus socio-ocupacional para las tres ciudades, entre los individuos afrocolombianos y los no afrocolombianos, pero con interesantes diferencias por ciudad y según efectos de cohorte de nacimiento para dichas ciudades. Los resultados desfavorables obtenidos por los individuos afrocolombianos en el proceso de estratificación social de las tres ciudades no sólo se producen por tener padres con menor educación (y por lo mismo más pobres), sino también por la presencia de desventajas acumulativas que podrían ser interpretadas como factores de discriminación por raza y género, controlando diferentes cohortes de nacimiento.
