Protection des indications géographiques dans les accords commerciaux européens : de bonnes raisons d’en faire tout un fromage

Abstract

Les indications géographiques (IG) permettent d’identifier les produits alimentaires en fonction de leur origine et de limiter la concurrence de produits similaires qui ne répondent pas au même cahier des charges. L’Union européenne est la principale initiatrice de ce système et inclut systématiquement des listes d’IG à protéger dans ses accords bilatéraux depuis 2010. Ces clauses permettent aux entreprises françaises productrices d’IG d’accéder à de nouveaux marchés et de vendre leurs produits plus cher, sous réserve que le pays partenaire se soit engagé à mettre en place des contrôles sur son marché et que ses consommateurs aient suffisamment de goût pour la qualité. Des gains commerciaux toutefois réservés seulement aux fromages.
