Lokale Konsumeffekte der Fußball-EM 2024

Abstract

Vom 14. Juni bis 14. Juli 2024 fand in zehn deutschen Städten die Fußballeuropameisterschaft 2024 statt. Das sportliche Großereignis führte zu einem Anstieg der lokalen Konsumausgaben, der in diesem Artikel anhand von kleinräumigen und tagesgenauen anonymisierten Kartenzahlungsdaten untersucht wird. Die Analyse zeigt einen inflationsbereinigten Anstieg der Konsumausgaben in den Austragungsorten um 4,4% während des Turniers, mit einer stärkeren Zunahme von 6,7% in der Gruppenphase. Dieser Zuwachs wird überwiegend durch ausländische Besucher*innen getrieben, deren Konsum insgesamt um 6,7% und in der Gruppenphase um 14,0% zunahm. Der Effekt der EM auf inländische Ausgaben blieb hingegen moderat. Besonders an den Spieltagen und den Tagen davor und danach zeigten sich signifikante Effekte: Bars, Restaurants und Schmuck- und Geschenkeläden profitierten um die Spieltage herum von Ausgaben internationaler Besucher*innen. Bei anderen Branchen wie Hotels ging ein Anstieg der internationalen Zahlungen mit einem Rückgang inländischer Ausgaben einher.
