Abstract

Nach etwa sechsjährigem Aufschwung gelang Ende 1998 eine "weiche Landung" der Konjunktur. Das reale Bruttoinlandsprodukt (BIP) dürfte 1999 um gut 1 3/4 % expandiert haben. Die Arbeitslosenquote ist im Jahresdurchschnitt um etwa 1/4 Prozentpunkt auf ca. 6 % gesunken. Im Jahr 2000 setzt sich der Aufschwung fort, wenn auch nicht mehr im gleichen Tempo wie im zweiten Halbjahr 1999. Das reale BIP dürfte um gut 2 3/4 % zunehmen. Die Lage auf dem Arbeitsmarkt bessert sich nicht nennenswert; die Arbeitslosenquote wird auf etwa 5 3/4 % zurückgehen. Für das Jahr 2001 kann erneut mit einem Anstieg des realen BIP von fast 2 3/4 % gerechnet werden. Die Arbeitslosenquote dürfte sich auf 5 1/4 % verringern.
