Wachstum ohne Jobs in Europa : wo liegen die Ursachen?

Abstract

Die Analyse der Wettbewerbsfähigkeit der EU deckt deutliche Defizite auf. In erster Linie sind diese durch die mangelnde Fähigkeit Europas bedingt, zusätzliche Arbeitsplätze zu schaffen. Die in Europa raschere Substitution von Arbeit durch Kapital läßt sich zum einen mit der stärkeren relativen Verteuerung des Faktors Arbeit erklären. Zum anderen hat sich hier auch die Produktivität aller Produktionsfaktoren schneller erhöht als in den USA. Darin kommt aber nicht eine Stärke der europäischen Unternehmen auf dem Gebiet technischer Neuerungen zum Ausdruck, sondern der über weite Strecken höhere Kostendruck und damit stärkere Rationalisierungszwang.
