Frieden im Nahen Osten? : Kooperationspotentiale und Projekte im Handels-, Dienstleistungs- und Produktionsbereich

Abstract

Seit der Unterzeichnung der Grundsatzerklärung zwischen Israel und der PLO im September 1993 erscheinen Frieden und Kooperation in der Nahostregion als realistische Perspektive. Die Studie gibt einen Überblick über die Möglichkeiten, aber auch die Hemmnisse, die einer engeren wirtschaftlichen Zusammenarbeit in der Region im Wege stehen. Der Bericht stellt mit Hilfe von Tabellen über die Wirtschaftsleistung, Wertschöpfung und Außenhandelsverflechtung, sowie länderspezifischen Analysen das Potential des Wirtschaftswachstums der Region dar. Dabei sind jedoch auch die regionalen Handelshemmnisse zu berücksichtigen. Unterschiedliche Organisation des Außenhandels, Zollschutz und Defizite der institutionellen Infrastruktur im Bereich der Handelsförderung sind besonders nachteilig. Allgemein werden die wirtschaftlichen Perspektiven der Region positiv bewertet. Die Wirtschaft kann Vorreiter einer Versöhnung werden, wenn die politischen Rahmenbedingungen konkreter manifestiert werden.
