Übersterblichkeit während der Corona-Pandemie

Abstract

Seit zwei Jahren hält die Covid-19-Pandemie Deutschland und die Welt in Atem. Seit dem erstmaligen Auftreten des Virus in Deutschland am 27. Januar 2020 und seiner raschen Verbreitung geht die Sorge um, dass viele Menschen infolge einer Infektion sterben könnten. Der nachfolgende Artikel zeichnet zunächst die bisherigen vier Wellen der Corona-Pandemie hinsichtlich Infektionen und Todesfällen nach und untersucht dann, wie hoch die sogenannte „Übersterblichkeit“ tatsächlich war. Insgesamt sind nach den hier vorgelegten Berechnungen seit Pandemiebeginn rund 96 200 mehr Menschen gestorben als es unter normalen Umständen zu erwarten gewesen wäre. Die Übersterblichkeit ist damit etwas niedriger als die Zahl der in diesem Zeitraum vom RKI registrierten 113 400 Todesfälle im Zusammenhang mit einer Corona-Infektion.
