Abstract

We seek in this article to assess the consequences of increased job search assistance on the degree of labour market integration of young people followed in a public program called Civis (Contrat d?insertion dans la vie sociale). This program is implemented in the missions locales (job centres for young people) and aims to support young people of 16 to 25 years old, with no or a low level of qualification, to get a job. Created in 2005, the Civis came after the Trace program (Trajet d?accès à l?emploi). The data we used came from the application Parcours 3 developed to follow the trajectories of young people in missions locales. We mobilized panel data. We found a positive, clear and robust impact of the intensification of job search support for young people on their degree of integration into the labour market. The adverse impact of the economic crisis during the third quarter of 2008 is especially visible in our data.
