Abstract

The evaluation of the burden of job stress may be crucial from a public health perspective and from an economic point of view. However, studies remain very sparse on this topic in the literature. The objective of this study was to underline the interest of such a calculation, to present a specific methodological approach (attributable fractions) and its limitations. This approach is based on epidemiological data: relative risk of disease associated with job stress and the prevalence of exposure to job stress. Its limitations underline the need to have robust and consistent epidemiological data from prospective etiological studies based on large samples. The results of such an evaluation of the burden of job stress may be helpful for decision making aimed at allocating available resources for prevention.
