Abstract

The emergence of an innovation economy based on knowledge forces managers to face management situations that we qualify of ?extreme? because they occur in an evolutionary, uncertain and risky environment. We explore different ways to generate rules specific to this class of situations thanks to the polar exploration. Our results highlight three registers that should warrant attention from managers and research alike: sensemaking within collectives, organizational ambidexterity and expansion devices knowledge.
