Prix implicite du non-raccordement au réseau d’eau potable à Dapaong au Togo

Abstract

This paper evaluates the implicit price of no household access to a water network in a small African town (Dapaong, Togo). We use the matching method applied to data from a survey conducted in 2010. The results show the benefits associated to the tap connection of households: a rise in water consumption (86 or 92 liters per person per day) which would satisfy the water needs of the population. The ?extended? average cost estimate suggests that despite the initial connection cost, access to the network would offer a real opportunity for reduction in the total cost for each cubic meter of water consumed, due in particular to the disappearance of the opportunity cost associated to time of water collection.
