Les bassins de vie ont-ils un sens ?. Une interrogation de la proximité en périurbain francilien

Abstract

Life Basin, as other categories (spatial, sociological or statistical categories), is discussed each time that the territorial governance is reconsidered and that the new public policies have to be implemented. Despite the fact that the notion of Life Basin is criticized by some researchers, it is used by elected peoples and institutions in order to meet resident demand for proximity and local services (the implementation of local policies). This article provides that the Life Basin, rather than being the perimeter of an enclosed area, does reflect the spatial organization of peri-urban space that is based on secondary urban polarities and proximities because there is growing congestion in the major metropolitan centres.
