Analyse économique des disparités écologiques spatiales : Une étude à partir des départements français

Abstract

The issue of the spatial ecological disparities is a relatively little treated problem. In this article, we suggest to consider an economic analysis of environmental disparities by using data related to the French departments (EIDER data from IFEN). After a treatment by principal component analysis, we adapt the model « STIRPAT » (YORK et. al., 2003) for our object and test it through many econometric equations. The results essentially highlight the major role of the density of population with respect to the environmental variables (atmospheric pollutions, polluted areas, hazardous establishments in particular). The indicator of wealth (GDP per capita) shows, on the other hand, a clearly weaker correlation. A possible limit with this study is the existence of differences, internal to the territories, hidden by the using of departmental averages. So, an interesting research perspective would consist in completing this analysis by an approach on smaller territories. Classification JEL : Q53, R12.
