Abstract

In this article, we use a computable microsimulation general equilibrium model to examine the effects of cane-to-sugar biofuel production in Guadeloupe on greenhouse gas emissions, growth, and monetary poverty. This biomass is produced by farmers who confront ?manufacturers? in a cooperative play to negotiate the price of cane. The results show that biofuel development would reduce greenhouse gas emissions, reduce dependence on fossil fuels and diversify agricultural opportunities for cane growers. However, the effects on monetary poverty in this oil-dependent economy would be negative.
