3. Optimisme personnel, déprime sociétale : le paradoxe de la jeunesse française

Abstract

Young French people globally demonstrate relative personal optimism concerning their future, but are more prone to pessimism about society?s future. The purpose of this article is to respond to this apparent paradox by studying the internal split within French youth. Furthermore, an implicit intergenerational deal allows a majority of young people to accept their situation as outsiders in the labor market, and leads these young people to in some way oppose reforms of this market. One alternative direction for public policies would be to address the causes of this youth split.
