Abstract

Polygamy is still very present in Senegal, especially among the elderly. In this paper we measure the evolution of polygamy and analyze its residential forms. Then we analyze the implications of different living arrangements and the services provided by the family and the entourage for the elderly. Polygamy increases the opportunities for support for older men by their wives, while women mostly rely on the help of their adult children.
